Powering Darwin’s world of work

This month recruiting experts Hays celebrate two years of operation in Darwin. During that time, the team have placed almost 1,000 people in permanent or temporary roles across the Territory, including a significant number of people from interstate to assist employers affected by local skills shortages.

“One of our greatest strengths is our ability to source interstate candidates for local vacancies from our national network,” said Simon Lance, Senior Manager of Hays in Darwin. “Despite the economic climate of the last year, there was a shortage of local candidates and we will continue to bring such talent into the Territory.”

Over the last year, Hays has invested in new initiatives to deliver better value, service and outcomes for their Darwin customers.

“Darwin is flourishing,” said Simon. “During our first year we set up with great systems, a great team and a very strategic and professional attitude. We quickly identified what employers wanted, and we delivered it.

“Over our second year, we’ve focused on how we can add additional value to the Territory. One of our key initiatives has been our rebrand. More than a visual identity and logo refresh, we articulated our core brand essence to make more of our strengths and address issues.

“We made this change to become a better kind of recruiting partner, to help our clients and candidates in Darwin and across the Territory achieve lasting impact in their worlds of work. Our new brand informs everything we do, from the way we behave as expert consultants with our customers to the way we write our recruitment advertisements. It ensures we achieve consistency across our customer experience and reinforce the same, clear idea of what we are about – recruiting experts.

“Then there was our new operating system. Our reasonable profits of the last year enabled us to invest in our business. Our new operating system was implemented in 2009 and is a state of the art tool that harnesses the power of Google searching, automatic CV uploads, job board posting and enhanced management information, all within the reach of a simple mouse click. It has enabled us to unite our candidate databases providing an unmatched resource in the Territory for matching candidates to jobs.

“Added value also comes from our online training facility for our candidates, which enables them to train at their own pace on over 50 software packages including Microsoft Office, Adobe, Corel, Lotus, QuickBooks, and many more. This helps improve the skills base of local candidates.

“In addition our paperless office, through our e-commerce initiatives, has allowed us to make a positive environmental impact.”
